So that is 2.3 trillion dollars right?  2.3 million million dollars?  $2,300,000,000,000.  The National Geographic had a picture of a marble several issues ago in an article about nano technology.  Anyway, the caption explained that a marble is one billiath of the size of the Earth as a nano meter is one billionth of a meter.  So think of that like money: a billion marbles is the size of the Earth as a billion dollars is to one dollar.  A lot of money huh?  I mean really think about how much money that is.  I mean I'd be glad if someone gave me a million dollars, that would get you a pretty nice house even in the rediculous real estate market of this town.  A billion dollars is will buy you one thousand of those same houses!  Now think of a trillion, that's a thousand billion or a MILLION of those houses.

Okay, so lots of people know that the national debt is in excess of 8 trillion dollars** but how many people remember hearing about the Pentagon loosing 2.3 trillion dollars?! **

I did not know about the money lost by the Pentagon. Either way, I am just absolutely shocked at how our country continues to put itself into debt. How can we not expect to be just the big losers in the end of all of that?? It really burns my cookies.

holy cow! that's crazy! O_o Kind of makes you sick. And I thought war was a money MAKER. Sounds like either a) it is a money maker and then government is spending said money somewhere useless or b) war is a money waster and we're racking up the debt by spending it...yikes...

War is a money maker, just not for the government. The folks who make all the money is the military industrial complex which Eisenhower warned us about. (text of his speech http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/farewell.htm) Really scary how his predictions have come true.
