Where has the time gone?

What is going on? October has come and gone without even ONE entry! Let me summarize...
SANS 2006 in Las Vegas - I spent 8 days of intense network security training at the
SANS conference. Took a 6 day class in perimeter security and a 2 day class on Cisco router security. Played craps almost every night after class and dinner and won $1000. Its all about finding that hot table.
Work is busy as always. More projects are possible all the time. I get to pick and choose what is next for me most of the time. Im working currently on MPLS on our backbone, event correlation appliances, the future of our SONET equipment and our next core bandwidth expansion, re-writing all our DMZ ACLs (I hate this one), supporting the Sheriff's department new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD or 911) system, and yesterday we talked again about moving our redundant Internet connection to Santa Maria for better geographic diversity. No wonder I have no time at work to write my blog!
Mom (Grandma Marcia) came to visit for a couple of days at the end of the month. We all had a great time. I think she and Jessie really like playing together. Heidi and I got a date night out of the visit and that is always welcome.
The pond is going well but slowly. I put in a diverter valve and some new plumbing in for a mid level discharge on the pond. This allows me to turn down (or off) the waterfall and send the water directly into the pond. The waterfall was too strong and too noisy. In addition, I was still loosing quite a bit of water that way even after sealing the pool at the top. It seems that I was not loosing water there but farther down the waterfall. I thought at first that it must just be splash, but after putting in the diverter and turning down the waterfall to a pleasant trickle, it still lost way too much water. So, I am working on landscaping and other things and just have the waterfall off for the moment. I will get back to it later. I think I will have to end up sealing the whole thing with that two part epoxy paint. I must have punctured the liner under the waterfall... I don't see where it could otherwise be spilling out.
One fun thing about the mid-level return is that I put in a
venturi for
pond aeration. So, lots of bubble and oxygen now for the pond. Cleared up the whole thing really quickly and I can now see the bottom of the pond for the first time in a month. Next is to test the water to see what it is really up to.
Anyway, I better get back to work.
Oh, just one more thing... I spent a whole bunch of money on a new computer because I purchased the new version of NWN (that game I play) and it would not even run on my old clunker (it IS over 2 years old now). So, last night I started putting it together and hopefully the memory sticks will show up today so I can complete the project.
